Loved this cabin!

Review by Maggie S.
We have spent many summer vacations at the lake in McCall and have stayed in several different cabins through the years, but Born Rhees is my favorite to date! Above all, the location is PERFECT!! Right on the lake, with a private dock and sandy beach, and adjacent to Ponderosa State Park and its many wonderful hiking/biking trails. The front deck affords a fantastic view of the beautiful lake, and it stays light till after 10 p.m. in the summer, so we spent most of our evenings outdoors, either up on the deck itself, or out on the sandy beach, where we brought out the deck chairs, set up a fire pit (we brought with us), and roasted marshmallows for s’mores. Indoors, we played cards and other board games from the owners’ ample collection, and we were all elated that this little old cabin actually had lightning-fast WiFi and a “smart” TV, which allowed us to access our Netflix and HBO-Go accounts when we wanted to chill out and watch a movie. The cabin is unapologetically OLD, with vintage décor and lots of quirks, like pull-cords to turn on ceiling lights, ridiculously high beds (step stool provided), and not just ONE fireplace, but TWO antique wood stoves in the living room, but these are part of what give a cabin its charm! There are two separate tiny bedrooms, each with a double bed – the back bedroom’s bed is pretty saggy and less-than-ideal for two people to share, but the front one’s is nice and firm, once you climb up. Additionally, there are twin bunks in the living area, plus queen hide-a-bed. The kitchen is tiny, with a vintage electric range and plug-in griddle, but surprisingly serviceable and well-equipped, with a good fridge/freezer and all the basic cooking and tableware. The small bathroom is vintage, as well, but clean and functional, with a tub/shower. Washer and dryer were another nice surprise! Highly recommended!

Born-Rhees Holiday vacation

Review by Christy B.
We love the cabin on the lake. It was rustic and unique. The location is exquisite, having our own dock and shore and seconds from the park entrance and a quick bike ride to downtown. It was quiet during the week, and we felt lucky to have our own private space during the busy holiday weekend.

Born Rhees

For the most part it was pleasant. The back room's light did not work though (might want to check that). The deck was a mess with pinecones and needles. Thought the cleaning company would try and make the entire grounds in tip top shape for the renter. Luckily there was a broom so we could sweep that up. Other than that it was a fun little place. Great dock, felt very secure leaving our boat tied up to it as well as letting the children play from it. Nice sandy beach and clean water to play in. Fun board games for when it got cold outside and cable t.v. is always good.

Living among the Ponderosa pines

We had stayed here 10 years ago. We knew it was VERY rustic but the location is wonderful. The property management company was extremely professional as well as helpful

great place

Review by Nancy S.
The only complaint that I have is that the propane tank for the gas grill was empty. I told the office this on our way out and the woman working said it was up to the person who ran it out to fill it out. That is a flawed policy. Why should the last person using the tank be responsible for paying and taking time out of their vacation to refill the tank for every one else? It's like, if it was time for the electricity bill to be payed, it would be up to whomever was staying there at the time to pay. Or, if the garbage bags ran get the gist. The propane grill is advertised and should be ready to go. Otherwise, it was a great spot.

Cozy Cabin

Review by
Cabin is cute, but very rustic and all the furniture/decorations both inside and out are very very old. It was stocked with everything you might need from every possible kitchen utensil (also ancient though) to bandaids and a whole closet full of towels/blankets/etc. It was mostly clean, but there was a thick layer of dust throughout the cabin. It's also very dark inside. The dock with the cabin is unsteady and uneven, so it was a bit dangerous. Our kids played on the little bit of beach at the cabin as the water is very shallow, but there's a public beach right next to the cabin if you'd prefer. The deck is great to sit and watch the most perfect views of the sunset in the evenings. The entrance to the state park is literally at the end of the driveway, so you have easy access to everything there (biking/hiking/walking). We also walked to town several times which is less than a 15min walk. We had deer in the yard every morning and a fox one day. Overall, the rustic atmosphere was cozy, but don't expect fancy or modern.

Born Rhees Cabin

Review by Janet L.
The location is great and we loved the private dock and deck. The view from the cabin is as good as it gets. There is also a public beach next door which was great because we have a two year old. The cabin was well stocked with dishes, linens and supplies. The complaints I have are that the outdoor trash cans were not emptied from the previous guests and a bear got into them on the first night. The trash was scattered all over. We had to call the prop. mgr to come empty the cans which should have been done before we arrived. The cabin is also fairly dark inside and the light fixtures were really funky -pull strings on bare bulbs throughout. Also, there was a layer of dust on everything, the blinds, tv, surfaces, etc. But overall, the location is so good that you just have to overlook the other stuff. We would stay there again.
