About McCall

McCall has grown from a small logging community to a year-round destination resort prized for it’s natural beauty. Located in Idaho’s West Central Mountains, McCall is 100 miles north of Boise with a scenic two-hour drive following the Payette River through the Payette National Forest.

Summer in McCall is enjoyed with warm sunny days and cool nights perfect for gathering with family and friends. Area activities include hiking, mountain biking and fishing at one of the many area lakes, streams and rivers. Enjoy the cool waters of McCall’s 5,330-acre glacial formed Payette Lake. Boating, water skiing and sailing are always popular activities. Boat, watercraft, canoe, paddle board, and bike rentals are available in town. The spectacular Independance Day fireworks display over the lake is not to be missed. Cascade lake has recreation to offer from boating to fishing you can access this lake in Cascade or Donnelly. For more fun in Cascade you can visit Kelly Whitewater park or the Aquatic Center.

At an elevation of 5,000 feet, McCall averages over 170 inches of annual snowfall. Brundage Mountain Ski Resort and Tamarack Resort offer incredible views and some of the best in alpine skiing. Nordic skiing is another popular activity with groomed trails throughout the area. With over 500 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and plenty of off-trail riding, McCall has something for riders of all abilities. Snowmobile sales, rentals, service facilities and fuel are located in town to provide you with the supplies and accessories you need. We are proud to offer vacation homes and condos with extra parking or pull-through drives to allow for trailer parking.

Other fun winter activities include cross country skiing, or snowshoeing in Ponderosa State park. The Activity Barn offers snow tubing hours are posted on their website. Another fun family outing, ride the snow sled or hay wagon out to feed the elk. These are not tame elk, but it is very exciting to have these wild magnificent creatures nudge you so they can get to the hay bails that you are sitting on.

The highlight of McCall in the winter is Winter Carnival, the last weekend in January throught the first weekend in February. Be sure to get your booking so you can be a part of our “Mardi Gras Parade”, and spectacular snow carvings. Something fun for all the family!!
